Preply is a platform for learning subjects, languages or hobbies with tutors of your choice. You will find our recommendations for using the platform below.
Choose a tutor
You can use filters in «Find tutors» section to narrow the search results for your needs and budget range. You can choose the speciality needed, specify the price range, prefered time for studying etc. We recommend that you use all of the available filters. This will save your time in searching for a suitable tutor and ensure that you select one who can best help you reach your goals.
Clarifying the details
If you need to clarify any details before making a decision while choosing a tutor, you can send a personal message directly from the search results or profile page of the selected tutor. According to the rules of the site, it is forbidden to share any contact information until payment for the first lesson is made. Violation of this policy will result in your profile being blocked. If the system has blocked you during correspondence with the tutor by mistake, please contact our technical support.
First lesson payment
After you have selected the time for the lesson, go straight to payment by selecting payment method:
- Visa/Mastercard
- Paypal
During the first lesson you will be able to determine if the tutor suits your needs. If the tutor does not suit you well or the lesson does not take place, we will refund you 100% of the paid amount or pay for your first lesson with another tutor.
Lesson packages payment
After the first lesson, you will be able to choose a number of hours and pay for the package of lessons to continue learning. Packages of 5, 10, 15, 20 hours are available for you. Package payments guarantee the safety of your money as the tutor gets paid only after you confirm that each lesson took place.
Lesson confirmation and review
After the lesson, the tutor can correct the duration and give a summary of the lesson. He can also add a homework assignment. The platform will automatically send you a request to confirm and evaluate the lesson. Once you do that, the tutor will receive a payment to his or her account. In case you have the auto-confirmation of the lessons turned on in your Settings, your lesson will be confirmed 72 hours after the lesson completion time (or 72 hours after lesson is added to Calendar for the lessons added in the past). Note that this feature applies to all lessons except the first lesson with your tutor, and can be enabled or disabled at any time.
If the lesson was not held, or you were not completely satisfied with it, please let us know about this within 72 hours after the lesson time using the ‘Report issue’ button in ‘My lessons’ menu, so that we can take appropriate course of action.
Please keep in mind that all lesson evaluations are anonymous. Hence, we recommend you to give an honest feedback about the tutor. This will help us manage our tutors’ base more effectively.
Leaving a review of the tutor
Two weeks after the payment for the first lesson, we will send you an email offering to leave a review for your tutor. By leaving a review, you take part in the tutor's rating process and help future students find the right tutor. If you wish, you can leave a review faster by entering the conversation with a specific tutor through My Requests section.
Lesson packages payment
Sometimes you may face some unforeseen issues that do not allow your lesson to be carried out satisfactorily. This may include missing the lesson, being late for the lesson, having some technical or personal issues related to the lesson either by tutor or you. In this case, we strongly recommend you to report this issue as soon as possible, so that we can take necessary actions in a timely manner.
Follow these steps to report the issue with your lesson:
- Go to ‘My Lessons’
- Find your tutor and the lesson you’d like to report, click "Report Issue".
- Select the relevant issue with your lesson in the pop-up window, otherwise select “Other”. Write all available information into the ‘Comment’ field.
- Based on the option you choose, you will be recommended some of the immediate solutions available, otherwise, the issue will be forwarded to the support team.

Working with «Find Students» section
In «Find Students» section, we publish requests from students who want to receive offers from verified tutors on our platform.
If you want your request to be published in the «Find Students» section, you should follow this link.
All tutor's answers are shown in the My Requests section on your profile.
How to close the request?
If you want to close your request, you should log into the website and visit «Find Students» section, where your request will be at the top. Then click «Close Request» button.
Platform guarantees and other rules
The refund option will only be available for your payment only during the period of 90 (ninety) days from the date when your payment was made for all unscheduled lessons. In case the tutor doesn't suit your needs, or your scheduled lesson didn't take place but was accidentally confirmed, you a can ask us to refund or transfer these funds to another tutor within 3 days of the scheduled lesson's start time. In case the User does not use funds provided to the Platform and/or hours acquired for such funds during the period of more than 180 (one hundred eighty) days starting from the date of provision of such funds to the platform, funds and hours of such User will be irreversibly lost and will not be refunded upon request. In case you decided to use your right to change a tutor after the first lesson, you can only do this not more than 2 (two) times. In case you decide to change tutors more than 2 (two) times, the next first lesson with any other new tutor should be paid. Preply is not responsible for any kind of fee charged by payment systems and will not cover it when initiating a refund. To the fullest extent permitted by law, any refunds at any time are at our sole discretion only.
Cancellation Policy
Sometimes your plans change and you may have to cancel/reschedule your lesson. In this case, we require you to give your tutor at least 4 (four) hours notice. Otherwise, you are liable to be charged the full amount for the scheduled lesson, unless the tutor agrees not to charge you after a formal discussion. We reserve the right for every tutor to charge the cost of the lesson that is cancelled less than 4 hours before its planned start time, without possibility of this sum being refunded to the student or transferred to other tutors.
You can cancel/reschedule lessons through your Preply account easily by clicking the corresponding button in ‘My lessons’ for the scheduled lesson anytime up to 4 hours before your lesson. You will be asked to provide a reason for cancellation which, in most cases, will be forwarded to your tutor.
